OPEN CALL
BAR RESIDENCY

Open call for sound and bar residency
at WONDER CABINET AND RADIO ALHARA

IN Bethlehem, Palestine

The Wonder Cabinet and Radio alHara welcome applications from collectives, teams and initiatives of artists, curators, musicians, producers, designers and creatives from all backgrounds and geographies to participate in a one-of-a-kind residency merging the realms of mixology and bartending, radio and content curation, community-building and landcare.

A cycle of 4 three-months

residencies

one for each season, takes place in Bethlehem. Led by a community- and process-oriented approach, it aims at bringing together a diversity of experiences to collectively develop bottom-up forms of mutual care and civil resistance, using the Wonder Cabinet platform as a vehicle for social and urban cohesion, and sustainable development.

By joining the Wonder Cabinet’s lively community on the ground, residents will have the opportunity to intersect their own practices with the Palestinian social, cultural, political and agricultural landscape as a common ground of inquiry into resilience, solidarity, and resourcefulness, capable of resonating both locally and globally.

The Bar Residency is the first in a series of residencies led by Wonder Cabinet within the framework of a broader land rehabilitation project supported by the Allianz Foundation Grant 2024: “Fixing What’s Broken, Together”.

As a resident

you will have the opportunity to bring your vision to the Wonder Cabinet Bar, with a multi-sector experience complete with a radio residency and public program curation encompassing mixology, sound and cultural solidarity. You will engage with, and take over all the main components of the space: Listening Bar & Kitchen, Radio alHara, Reading Corner, Shop, and the Land. The residency is articulated along two main intertwining areas of intervention:

Bar Takeover

With the support of our staff, you will take over and manage the bar in all its features, including developing your own menu of beverages and snacks, designs, and conviviality formats, to create an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere. Inspired by km 0 (zero-kilometer) principles, you will work with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from the Wonder Cabinet’s land and other local producers, while experimenting with local agricultural practices and traditions.

Radio alHara Residency and Public Program

Radio alHara will be the stage of your own curated sound program, including live performances, vinyl selections and listening sessions, public talks and conversations, all in line with your research interests and the core topics of this open call. You will also have plenty of room to fully engage with the Wonder Cabinet space and community, by example conducting workshops and initiatives animated by objects, discussions, products and books, to make your research available to the public.
